What We Teach

What We Teach Is Not What You Must Believe

We at Grace River City Church (GRCC) welcome all different backgrounds of the Christian faith and people groups to join us in worship and community. In part of being transparent, we would like you to know that when you attend our ministries, or become a member, that you know what we will be teaching. We do not enforce the general membership or visitors to commit to our teaching, but would love for everyone to have the opportunity to hear what we teach. GRCC subscribes to the Second London Baptist Confession of Faith and teaches under the framework of the Five Solas:
  1. Sola Fide, by faith alone.
  2. Sola Scriptura, by Scripture alone.
  3. Solus Christus, through Christ alone.
  4. Sola Gratia, by grace alone.
  5. Soli Deo Gloria, glory to God alone.
And as having a church membership under the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) denomination, we agree with the statements of the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message.

“For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.”

1 Corinthians 14:33

Other doctrinal distinctives that you will hear us teach:

  • The Qualification and Plurality of Elders

Although GRCC is a congregationally-led church and autonomous from any outside entity, we believe that the spiritually mature and discerning group of men are those approved by God with the gifts of teaching, wisdom, and discernment. This group is what’s known as the elders of the church (1 Tim. 3; Titus 1).

  • TULIP and the Doctrines of Grace

We follow the commandments and instructions of the Scriptures and also acknowledge that the systematic theological outcomes of the Protestant Reformation are sound, and do logically harmonize with the Scriptures.

  • The Cessation of Gifts

The miraculous sign gifts of the New Testament church has discontinued with the Apostles. We believe that there are no more Apostles in the church today, but only those given the gifts of the Spirit to maintain and progress the Kingdom that was already been built on the foundation of the Apostles and prophets of the 1st century church (Eph. 2:20).

  • Lordship Salvation

Only faith alone justifies a man before God. But true faith in Jesus as Savior cannot stand apart from the recognition of Jesus Christ as Lord too. While good works themselves cannot save, they serve as evidence of the presence of saving faith and a true knowledge of Christ. Good works are seen as the natural and inevitable outgrowth of the seed of faith; hence any claims of saving faith apart from the presence of such works justly fall under concerned suspicion (Matt 3:8; 6:15-27; James 2:14-26).

We welcome conversation and dialogue in our doctrinal distinctives and are open to adjustments and changes if Scripture proves otherwise.
