background info

For more than forty years, Hmong Christianity in the United States has been the beacon of light for all other Hmong Christians around the world. But a general consensus among those who would consider themselves Hmong and Reformed would agree that the Hmong Christian faith throughout the world, including the United States, has been merely surviving on the clan mentality; desiring to come together in community for the strength in numbers, and for material and emotional benefits. While being grateful for the perseverance of our Hmong Christian forefathers who, through trials and tribulations, struggled to adapt to the American culture and yet were still able to establish a well-structure system of Christianity in America, the second generation, and beyond, Hmong Christians have now begun to investigate unquestioned church traditions, resulting in the exploration of historical Christianity according to the Scriptures and church historical records. Because of this new era of accessible knowledge and resources, Hmong Christians began to seek the lack of clarity in the gospel, and began to question their upraising in Christianity. There is no doubt that a shift is becoming apparent, where Hmong Christians are leaving the traditional Hmong churches and are seeking a biblical model of church that doesn’t revolve around culture and politics. The Bible is beginning to gain its leverage back as the authority to all church and Christian practice, and the status quo is receiving pushback. A Hmong Reformation is being sown and is on the verge of being reaped. This is where Grace Hmong Community Church (GHCC) comes in. GHCC is the first Hmong confessional Reformed Baptist church in the world. We started our church plant in the Spring of 2018. Zong Moua contacted Tra Xiong of the Hmong National Baptist Association and accepted the task to plant the only existing Baptist Hmong church in Sacramento, California. We are Hmong Americans, which we teach and preach in English, and are able to translate and cater to the Hmong language. We understand and respect both the Hmong and American cultures, but will not compromise what God has revealed to the church for the sake of the glory of men. But recently, because the formation of the membership has begun to grow by the grace of God, GHCC has decided to change the church name from Grace Hmong Community Church to Grace River City Church. If you would like more information on why the name change, visit the Name Change blog. If you would like more information on our beliefs, visit our What We Teach Page.
